For a long time I have been searching for a refuge. For me a refuge is a place one can feel safe in, protected, peaceful, loved. This search has taken me far away: to big cities and small towns, through various philosophies and spiritual disciplines and sometimes even far away from myself.
With time I´ve come to see that what I had always sought outside was a place within. The images of this series are about this process, about the search and about the place, which despite having been found always needs to be tended to.
By effort and heedfulness,
discipline and self-mastery,
let the wise one make for oneself
an island which no flood can overwhelm.
Dhammapada 2.25
Make an island of yourself,
make yourself your refuge;
there is no other refuge.
